OUR STORY

In 2009, Sam had become fed up working as a personal trainer in a fitness industry filled with misleading fads and gimmicks. He started training a small group of high school football players in his basement and backyard in Stratford, CT. This group soon expanded into collegiate athletes and everyday people looking to get fit. Because much of the training took place in a backyard, people would often ask if “the yard” was open, or if they could come flip some tires at “the yard”. When the time came to open an actual facility, the name had already chosen itself: The Yard Strength & Conditioning.

Meanwhile, In Hyannis, Mass, in 2009, Lori was transitioning out of running and circuit training to bodybuilding, which would eventually lead to figure competitions. After getting caught up in the dark side of the fitness industry, being inundated with unhealthy nutrition advice and training styles that perpetuate hormonal imbalances and fatigue, she had an idea. A gym without frills, fads, or nonsense, which simply focused on proven old school training methods. She wanted to call it: The Yard Training.

Fast forward to 2014. Lori moved to Stratford, CT for a new job. She found a gym in town called The Yard Strength & Conditioning. She called and booked a session with Sam… and the rest is history.

Two people, in different parts of the world, with the same idea: a gym called The Yard, free from fads and fitness industry bullshit. Unapologetically doing what works, trashing what doesn’t, and getting results, now and always…
